[Invitation] Workshop on Paraphrasing, Summarizing, and Citing Scientific Article

Paraphrasing and summarizing are very similar, or even some people might think that both are same. Paraphrasing and summarizing are about taking the idea from source material, words or phrases from a source and crafting them into new sentences within your writing.

Paraphrasing and summarizing may be done by authors when the authors put the information about source material. It is well known as citation. The citation is important part because by doing citing, authors will not be branded as plagiarism actor. When does the author do plagiarism? The author does plagiarism when (Colorado University, 2016):

– Using an author’s language and ideas without proper attribution
– Passing off an author’s ideas or text as one’s own
– Copying/imitating the structure of a text (e.g., sentence structure), even when paraphrasing and including a citation

To understand about paraphrasing, summarizing, and citing, Publication and Management Services of Sriwijaya University (UNSRI) has scheduled for good workshop which will invite Faizah Sari, Ph.D., Prof.Dr.Ir.Siti Nurmaini, M.T., and PMS team as mentors. While the citation session will engage PMS team to assist all participants to use scientific writing tools such as reference manager, plagiarism detector, grammar and vocabulary checker, etc.
